Our website at the libraries was in dire need of a refresh, so my boss and the website committee came up with a rough outline of what the site should look like and I set to work designing the site to be coded later.

This first image is an overview of what the site will look like. I made new icons for the Digital Initiatives, Creation Spaces, and Special Collections tabs to better reflect the purposes of those spaces. Some things were out of my control as they are university standard, like the UW Navigation bar up top, but I decided to make our toolbar look like it integrates seamlessly with that bar by putting our UW Libraries logo on a gold field.

The gray footer is another university element that needed to be kept, but I wanted to make it look like it was just an extension of our brown footer, given that the brown is the text color on the bottom and there are some small gold accents. It was important that the main colors of our page were UW Brown and Gold.

I also fleshed out all of the dropdown menus for the website, but chose just to feature the Services tab for the purpose of this portfolio.

It was important for our students that we have an accessible mobile site so they can access pertinent library information and call numbers on the fly. The UW header and footer are university standard, everything else was my work to optimize the above site for mobile.

It was important to me to keep the buttons on the site large to prevent miss-clicks, as I had noticed on our previous site that that was an issue.

I also designed the drop down menus for this site.
